Detective Conan is an amazing anime with millions of fans but getting the older episodes that are subbed on DVD is virtually impossible. Funimation has the rights to the first lot of episodes to dub them so it wouldn't a stretch for them to require the rights to continue the work and appease all the fans out there who would be more willing to buy them. The reason it is re-dub is because there are some glaring problems with the original dubbing such as westernising the Japanese names, (Shinichi Kudo to Jimmy Kudo, Ran Mouri to Rachel Moore... etc) splitting hour long specials into 2 separate episodes messing with the pacing, plus missing information which they have to re-add later making it seem a bit choppy. It is an under-appreciated series that if given enough attention by loyal fans can be given a new lease of life by FUNimation and if anything they could continue the dubbing of a well-loved and respected anime.
