There is no doubt that Makoto Shinkai's latest masterpiece [Your Name] is gonna go down as one of the best anime movies of 2016 and become a huge hit when it gets released theatrically in the US, in 2017 by the lovely people at Funimation. However, as I am writing this, anime releases in Puerto Rico are an extreme rarity. Occasionally we get one or two Studio Ghibli films released for a short amount of time, but for movies like Your Name, that kind of attention goes unnoticed to the point that it appears to not even be considered for release theatrically here. As a huge anime fan, that's really disappointing because apart from Puerto Rico having a lot of anime fans (many which are equally excited for this movie as I am), anime is a fantastic piece of foreign media that can be enjoyed by anyone in various different ways given how many different genres available from it. A film like Your Name is not only guaranteed to be a financial hit, but it's cultural and storytelling standpoints are perfect even for non-anime fans and considering how much popularity the film has been getting overseas (#1 in Japan for 9 consecutive weeks and recently becoming #1 on opening weekend in China), there is no doubt that many will want to see the film more and more considering its potential spot in the awards season of 2017. It really is a shame for a masterpiece like this to not shine theatrically in a state that harbors so many dedicated fans of anime, fans of culture and even just fans of great animation and storytelling, which is why I implore that Funimation and Caribbean Cinemas seriously consider releasing Your Name in Puerto Rico as part of it's upcoming theatrical release. Wether it's in Japanese, English, or even in Spanish, Your Name is a film that has been in the minds of many people out here in La Isla del Encanto and I've no doubt that many others would appreciate the opportunity to see such a great film the way many others in the U.S. will come 2017.
