The Issue

Manitoba is at a crossroads. With the elimination of carbon pricing and province of Manitoba’s net-zero plan, leaving a vague climate strategy in place, the Province must act now to support sustainable, equitable, and effective climate solutions. One of the most effective and impactful ways it can take climate action? Restore the 50-50 cost-sharing agreement for public transit. Public transit is more than a ride—it’s a lifeline for working families, a driver of economic growth, and a proven tool to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Systems that encourage drivers to shift some trips to transit are essential to reducing our carbon footprint and building a resilient future.

The City of Winnipeg implemented a spine-and- feeder based transit system—an approach long championed by Functional Transit Winnipeg. But without provincial support and a strong public voice, this progress is at risk. We, the undersigned, call on the Manitoba government to: • Reinstate immediately the 50-50 cost-sharing agreement for public transit operations • Invest in a frequent, reliable grid-based transit system for Winnipeg • Make public transit a cornerstone of Manitoba’s climate and economic strategy Sign this petition to demand fairness, climate action, and better transit for all Manitobans.
