Petition updateFund school buses for our kids - we deserve safe & sustainable routes to school!Update: We Addressed the Irvine City Council

Last night, about 15 Uni High parents came to the City Council meeting to make public comments urging the city to subsidize a bus to school. We waited over three hours while the council discussed other business, but was well worth it compared to the hundreds of hours it will take to drive back and forth to Uni! During a break in the meeting, a couple of us were also able to speak briefly with Mayor Farrah Khan and Council Member Mike Carroll (who lives in Turtle Rock), and both were receptive to learning more about the issue and our request that the city subsidize a bus.

What’s next? We need another council member to join Council Member Kathleen Treseder to formally add the item to a future meeting agenda, and call for a vote to fund the bus. In order to encourage the rest of the council, you could send an email (example below, which you can personalize):

Dear City Council,

I’m (NAME), a University High School parent who lives in (NEIGHBORHOOD), and I urge the city council to bring forward and vote to approve subsidizing a school bus for our children.

(Explain why you need a bus — ability to work, traffic, safety, pollution, etc.)

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

(YOUR NAME)
