The East Park neighborhood in Orlando, FL is getting a new playground structure for the East Lake Playground. While this is exciting news for our community, the current plans are to use engineered wood mulch for the project.

It is puzzling to all wheelchair and mobility aid users that mulch is considered ADA compliant, because wheels do not roll on mulch. This is a larger change we could like to see that mulch not be considered ADA compliant.

For now, I ask that you sign our petition and join us in asking Commissioner Jim Gray in allowing for additional funding so that our new playground can have rubber playground surfacing so that not only my child, but that people of all abilities can access our new playground. 

We have lived in the community for almost a decade and my daughter has never been able to enjoy our playground. This is probably the single most important component to make the new playground accessible.

I wish that this new space will be an enjoyable space for years to come for children of all abilities. 

Orange County Parks and Recreation and Commissioner Jim Gray - we must find the budget to install soft rubber flooring at East Lake Playground.
