The Issue

I know what it feels like to be outside and then be told to just come back in and act like everything is fixed. I was homeless, and even while I was still homeless, I was developing this concept because I kept seeing the same thing over and over. People would get placed indoors, and then end up right back outside. They were still struggling with addiction, mental health, trauma, and the deep pull of a life that most people do not understand unless they have lived it.

What I am talking about is bigger than a bed for the night. When society throws you away like that, you are not magically ready to fit right back into schedules, screens, rules, pressure, and everybody counting on you again. I have felt that loneliness of becoming an insider again. I have felt how easy it is to miss the freedom, the chosen family, and even the terrible parts of being outside, because at least they were familiar. If we keep pretending homelessness is only a housing issue and not also a trauma, reentry, behavioral health, and community issue, we will keep watching people cycle in and out.

That is why I am calling on state and local leaders to fund long-term, trauma-informed reentry and rehabilitation programs for chronically unhoused people. We need wraparound care that treats medical needs, mental health, addiction recovery, higher education, vocational training, and the transition back into work and stable living. We also need programs that let people build real savings before they graduate, so they are not set up to fail the minute they try to start over. I’m building the very first one in San Diego, CA we are calling Lost Boys:Found. I invite you to visit my site at www.escaping-Neverland.com to see  my vision of how this is the most viable solution to homelessness.

I am asking you to sign this petition if you believe we need to stop recycling people through broken systems and start investing in what actually helps them stay safe, heal, and rebuild their lives. Please stand with me and demand a real path forward for chronically unhoused people.
