Investigate the Euthanasia of a dog named Princess and change the operational procedures of the Fulton County animal Shelter.
The Issue
Princess could have been saved , she had $700 in pledges for rescue, foster offers and adoption offers, but no one was ever good enough for the shelter,
so they decided to kill her!!!!
They just deleted all of her threads when they killed her with no explanation or notification while rescues, adopters, fosters and concerned citizens were trying to find ways to save her life.
Fulton County Animal Services in Atlanta, GA kills dogs twice a week, lies about their behaviour and comes up with excuses every time someone steps up to rescue, foster or adopt a dog and why they cant let them have the dog. we have witnessed this for several weeks now.
Princess is gone but maybe we can change something for the other poor babies sitting in this high kill shelterJust to name a few examples:
The first adoption offer came from out of state which was "too complicated" because of transportation according to the shelter. the second one was a lady who filled out the paperwork already but they never got back with her. We're not sure what happened afterwards but she got denied. Then Happy Valley Ranch Rescue was trying to save Princess, they wanted to foster her and give her a loving home but Fulton told them that a 2 hour drive is too far to foster (I still have all the messages. Jeri tried everything to be able to foster her and even tried to do a shelter transfer), they would not work with her....
Then they decided that if Princess was to be adopted or fostered by a rescue, there had to be a fenced yard.
Another lady named Alisha drove there a few days ago to pick up 2 other dogs (who were not there anymore) so she asked about Princess but the shelter gave her no information about her except that she still needs to be spayed before being able to leave (afterwards the shelter denied that they ever said that).
Then Cristina Jones wanted to foster her through the shelters program which they don't allow anymore cause all of a sudden Princess, a totally adoptable dog, turned "aggressive" and became rescue and adoption only. Cristina wanted to foster her for 2 months and take care of her heartworm treatment as well, we had enough funds for the treatment and we were all still talking to rescues and begged for a little more time , but the shelter said without a longterm foster and a rescue to pull there is nothing they can do.
Everything was all of a sudden based on her "aggression" that was never mentioned before in all the threads, in the videos she was gentle, loving , the sweetest dog ever (their story went from "The Sweetheart" to " she got out of the kennel and bit a dog" to " she snapped at people at an event").
Then a very nice lady Verl wanted to save Princess and adopt her but they wouldn't let her because she has other dogs. Nevertheless Verl would have taken her anyway and made it work. Fulton turned the story around again said that she backed out which is not true!!!
Cristina Jones even had contacted a dog trainer who was willing to work with Princess because of the "behaviour issues" that she supposedly developed within a few days........
And these are just a few examples of what I witnessed in the last few weeks, there was much more drama, confusion and excuses than this.
The shelter did in no way try to work with anyone to help save Princess life.
