The issue

Jacinda Ardern has just announced that even if Auckland were to move to Alert Level 2, the borders would remain in place meaning no travel to other parts of NZ.

This petition asks the government to consider an amendment to that decision,  in that any Auckland person who is fully vaccinated and has produced a negative Covid test result within 72 hours of departure, should be allowed to travel outside the Auckland border and back.

Increasing vaccination rates are critical to securing a long term future for New Zealand, however the governments decision to restrict travel, even in Alert Level 2 gives no incentive or reward for those who are trying to do the right thing.

Essential workers can cross borders each day, without any requirement to be vaccinated, so why not allow those of us who have met all the necessary criteria and more to do the same. Incentivise those who have been vaccinated!! It just may encourage others to do the same..

The government needs to reconsider their decision and allow travel for those who are fully vaccinated and have negative tests.

It’s like the rest of us have sat the exam, finished early and are now being penalised by having to sit waiting in the hall until everyone else finishes too.
