The Issue

As an advocate for Targeted Individuals, I feel compelled to draw attention to the widespread and unjust consequences of the Patriot Act — a legislation initially introduced as a tool to prevent terrorism but has since extended its reach far beyond its intended purpose.

The Patriot Act, enacted in the wake of the September 11 attacks, was designed to bolster national security. However, it has given law enforcement agencies unchecked authority, eroding civil liberties and privacy rights at an alarming rate. It has become a tool for unwarranted surveillance, harassment, and torture of individuals, often without probable cause.

For Targeted Individuals, this overreach translates to constant monitoring, invasions of privacy, loss of property, and a continuous state of distress due to unjust allegations and accusations. The act has become synonymous with government overreach, disregarding the very Constitutional rights it was supposed to protect.

Statistics and cases have surfaced highlighting the misuse of power under the Patriot Act, with reports of thousands of unwarranted searches and seizures occurring without the necessary legal oversight, justification or redress. This emphasizes a significant threat to personal freedoms and the principles of democracy.

To restore the balance between security and personal liberty, it is critical to fully repeal the Patriot Act. This is not merely a plea for change, but a call to action to uphold the values of justice and freedom. By signing this petition, you advocate for the rights of all citizens to live without undue government intrusion and champion the cause of those who have suffered under a law that should protect rather than oppress.
