HCPS Funding Update

Thank you for taking the time to sign this petition to fully fund Harford County Public Schools. The number of signatures is indicative of a major concern within our county and I’m hopeful that with continued action, change can be made to improve the state of our schools. You’ve taken the first step by signing this petition. Now let’s work together to make sure our representatives hear us. The county budget will be passed in March and there are some things we can do before then to have our voices heard.
County Executive Barry Glassman is holding a FY20 Budget Input Town Hall on Thursday, January 24th at 6pm in Darlington Hall, Room 202 on the campus of Harford Community College. The County Executive creates the budget for the county and then passes it to the County Council for approval. Harford County has the second lowest spending per pupil rate in the STATE. County Executive Glassman needs to hear from us that this is unacceptable.
The Harford County Council meets the first 3 Tuesdays of every month in the Council Chambers (212 S. Bond St in Bel Air). The public has the chance to speak at the end of each meeting. I will be presenting this petition at the County Council meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 5th at 7:30pm. It would be impactful if you, the supporters of this petition, were there too. Even if you choose not to speak, your presence will make a difference.
Finally, if you cannot attend any upcoming meetings, reaching out to your representatives via phone or email is incredibly effective. You can find contact information for the County Executive here and the County Council here.
Let’s work together to secure fair funding for our schools!
