Prevent Spread of Coronavirus in OC by cancelling FJUHSD Schools Until Outbreak Ceases
The Issue
PLEASE READ THE WHOLE THING:
You have might have heard of it, you will surely fear it. Coronavirus is a type of virus similar to that of SARS outbreak in 2002. It is airborne meaning it is the most contagious type of disease known to man. However what is unknown about this new virus is just simply how contagious it really is. Confirmed sources from Chinese quarantine workers have told Korean News sources that at least 90,000 have been confirmed infected in the past 4 days. (the Chinese Government has said only 3,000 are infected at the time of this writing). Even if the Chinese government number is correct, over the past 5 days the number of people infected have literally been growing expontially and is expected to reach 100,000 by Feb. 4. This isn't taking into account Coronavirus' 10-14 day incubation period (meaning some may still have the virus without it being diagnosed) Hong Kong has declared a state of emergency and quarantine while the Centers for Disease Control issued LEVEL 3 Travel Health Notice to ALL Americans, (THATS OUT OF 3 LEVELS!) asking Americans to avoid any nonessential travel to China. Even after travel in and out of Wuhan was completely banned we see new cases everywhere with a death in Beijing confirmed 1,100 kilometers away 4 days after the quarantine, as well as a case in Orange County has been confirmed with follow up investigations in place to see whether or not people may have been infected. We do not have a cure nor know simply how contagious Coronavirus actually is.The World Health Orginization categorizes it as a high risk disease to be feared. Through some oddity OC Health Registry says chances of infections are low, it has spread to 13 of the richest and most medically advanced countries spanning across 4 different continents. That isn't taking into account the other 5 million people who left Wuhan, China during Lunar New Years before the quarantine that have a higher propensity to carry the disease. At school we would have a higher chance to get infected and simply would not be able to focus with a life threatening disease 5 to 10 minutes away from us. All we talk about at school is how we fear we may catch the disease when we should be discussing math homework. Studying while in fear of your own safety does not create a safe learning environment but instead forces students to take their mind off studies while attending school which is absolutely detrimental to testing scores. Most likely we will become infected based off of International Sources without proper precautions. Even if we may have a low risk of infection, would you take a low risk chance if it was your life on the line?
