Why this petition matters

Started by Amber Scott

On June 2, the Fullerton City Council voted to "temporarily" cease funding for the Fullerton Museum Center with no plan for re-opening.

The Fullerton Museum Center has been an essential cultural and social center of this city for over 40 years.  In addition to housing the permanent collection for native innovator Leo Fender, the museum has hosted international artists, exhibits that have sparked important societal conversations and exhibits that have brought great joy to multitudes of people.  It raises the prestige of this city in a way that nothing else does.

It is an important educational resource, providing tours to local schools, as well as art classes, music camps, lectures on related exhibits and a number of other programs.

Finally, it is the home of the weekly Farmer's Market and Beer Garden that is the heart of our community, bringing people together every Thursday night, providing family friendly entertainment and supporting our local economy.

We are asking the Fullerton City Council to reconsider their vote and to re-open this vital institution as soon as it is safe to do so under the current COVID-19 restrictions.  Closing it down will be an indelible loss, not only to this city but to the greater Orange County area.   Please sign and let them know that we are not willing to let culture in Fullerton die without a fight!

Thank you, Friends of the Fullerton Museum
