Apologies for not reaching out sooner! I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and outreach. I’ve become semi-connected with several groups in San Diego. The main one being Public Power San Diego - a coalition of people advocating for a non-profit utility company. In learning more about organizing, I’ve realized FSDGE needs your input.
I’m currently the only person organizing FSDGE - this de-legitimizes FSDGE. Ultimately this movement is an expression of anger from ALL San Diegans. I’d like to create a council for FSDGE similar in structure to the city council - I need a representative from each district in San Diego, I'd like to represent District 3. If you’re interested in representing your district or would like to attend our first in person meeting - email me at contactfsdge@gmail.com (Please Include Your District Number In the Subject Of Your Email) - I’m looking for motivated, good intentioned people who are willing to help me grow this movement to un-ignorable numbers. Here are some skill sets I hope to include on our council.
- Lawyer
- Graphic Designer
- Website Designer
- Editor
- Copywriter
- Media Buyer
- Connections To Any Local Organization/Organizing Experience
- Social Media Manager
- Local Business Owner
Once I get an idea of how many people are interested in meeting in person or representing their district; I’ll find a good date/time/location for us to meet. If more than one person is interested in representing a district, I’ll coordinate an online election. At our first in-person meeting I’d like us to achieve three things.
- Lock in the FSDGE Council
- Ratify The Open Letter (see below)
- Discuss Our Growing Plans
I’ve written a draft of the open letter which can be found here. In writing this open letter, I realized I was making decisions for nearly fifteen hundred of you that have committed to this payment strike. This open letter should represent what we all want to get from this payment strike. That being said, I do believe strongly in the goals I’ve stated in my draft of the open letter. I expect, if this movement truly grows to an un-ignorable scale, eventually the goals set in this open letter may be negotiated with the addressed parties. This is why I’d like this open letter to start with several far-reaching but still possible asks to avert the payment strike.
I also wanted to notify everyone of the “Fire SDG&E!” rally on February 25th, starting at noon, located at the San Diego Civic Center - Hosted by Public Power San Diego. Through sheer random chance, Public Power San Diego had started organizing their “Fire SDG&E!” rally right around the same time I organized the FSDGE pay strike. The similarity in names is uncanny, but just to be clear, this rally is not hosted by FSDGE. However, Public Power San Diego has indicated that I can have a table at the event to collect signatures for the payment strike. I hope to see you all there!
And finally, another deep thank you to everyone who has signed this petition page. I truly do believe that we have this perfect opportunity to make real change here in San Diego. SDG&E has crossed the line with so many people so many times that EVERY San Diegan has a negative view of them. The anger towards this for-profit price-gouging utility company transcends any division that exists today. I’d like to continue embracing this problem-focused unity and create a solution-focused unified movement. Please be sure to continue sharing the petition page on your socials, thank you again for getting involved in solving the SDG&E problem!
