#FromOkinawa

From Okinawa, as a mother, a woman, and a fellow human being.
#FromOkinawa

More than 750 people have signed our petition, and over ¥65,000 has been contributed in support.

To everyone who has signed, shared, or entrusted us with your hard-earned money: thank you, from my heart.

Your kindness has helped me feel less alone. It means so much to know that others share this hope.

I began this petition together with colleagues from diverse backgrounds after a heartbreaking loss of life in Okinawa. But when I look at what is happening around the world, the sorrow of people far away does not feel distant.

Someone has a child they have lovingly raised.
Someone has a loved one waiting for them to come home.
Everyone has a tomorrow they hope to live.

It hurts to think how suddenly those ordinary lives can be taken away.

As a mother, I want children to grow up feeling safe.
As a woman, I want to live without fear.
As a person, I want a world where each of us is treated with care and dignity.

Whatever our gender, whoever we love, and whatever form our families take, I hope we can all live safely and be ourselves.

These are simple, everyday hopes. Why do they sometimes feel so difficult to hold on to?

When heartbreaking news keeps coming, it can be hard to take it all in. Some days, I feel helpless and unsure of what I can do.

Still, I do not want to grow accustomed to another person’s pain. I do not want to accept that this is simply how things must be.

What one person can do may be small. But one person shares a concern, another listens, and someone carries it further. You have helped create that connection.

Our next goal is 3,000 signatures.

I am working to bring these shared voices to the United Nations and to Japan’s National Diet.

I hope the people who can help will hear our everyday concerns and our wish to live safely. I hope our voices will contribute to support for those who have been hurt, and to efforts that prevent others from experiencing the same sorrow.

I want to give the care behind every signature a tangible form, so it can be heard and taken seriously.

A future where lives lost are remembered, and people who have been hurt do not have to carry their pain alone.
Where children learn to value themselves and others.
Where we can care for one another across our differences.

That is the future I hope we can nurture together.

If this speaks to you, I would be grateful for your signature. If you have already signed, please consider sharing this with someone close to you.

I hold your support and trust with deep gratitude.
Thank you, from my heart.

From Okinawa, to the world.
May each of us live in safety and dignity.
