United Together #FromOkinawa

To everyone who has signed,
More than 200 people signed this petition yesterday alone.
I am deeply grateful that so many people have chosen to listen to a voice that began here in Okinawa and to stand with us.
And it has made me realize something even more strongly:
This is not only an Okinawan issue.
In the United States, developments surrounding Cornell University have also raised difficult questions about survivor support, institutional accountability, transparency, and what organizations must do when serious allegations of sexual violence are made.
The circumstances are different from Okinawa, but the underlying questions are strikingly similar:
When serious harm occurs, should accountability stop with one individual?
What responsibility does an institution have to examine what went wrong, prevent recurrence, and support those who were harmed?
And can the public see whether meaningful change actually follows?

I believe women, mothers, students, survivors, families, advocates, and communities around the world need to connect across borders.
This is not about left versus right.
It is not about being pro-base or anti-base.
It is about something more fundamental:
Protecting life and dignity.
Not abandoning victims after the headlines disappear.
And expecting meaningful accountability from both individuals and institutions when serious harm occurs.
These are principles that people with very different political views can still share.
To the more than 200 people who signed yesterday: thank you.
If you can, please share this petition with one more person.
One signature and one share can help carry Okinawa’s voice much further.
With gratitude,
Remi Ie
