From Love to Loss- help create Floyd’s Law to protect our fur family members

From Love to Loss- help create Floyd’s Law to protect our fur family members
The Issue
Floyd was our soul dog—pure love and joy. In 2021, a routine surgery went terribly wrong. We trusted the veterinarian with his care, yet we ended up losing so much more than we can express. Surgery was supposed to correct a retained testicle, but the vet refused to use imaging despite our concerns. Soon after the operation, Floyd returned home lethargic. His condition declined rapidly, and another hospital unveiled the severe mistakes: his prostate was mistakenly removed, his ureters were tied off, and the testicle remained inside. Despite years of fighting and endless love, Floyd succumbed to complications in 2024. He took his final walk across the rainbow bridge.
His tragic story underscores the dire need for accountability in veterinary oversight. Currently, there is a glaring lack of legal recourse for families like ours who suffer from negligence or substandard veterinary care. Our animals are not just property; they're members of our families and integral to our lives.
Dogs should be recognized under the law as family members and not merely as property. This is not just about justice for Floyd but about preventing similar tragedies for countless families who see their pets as part of their kin. We ask for legislative change to protect our companions and to ensure that state governments and insurance agencies take veterinary malpractice seriously.
Join us in urging lawmakers to recognize the emotional role dogs play and to advocate for stricter regulations and accountability in veterinary practices. Sign this petition to support families and their pets, ensuring they receive the care and respect they deserve. Together, let's honor Floyd and protect future generations of pets and their families.
In memory, in truth, in hope.
With love, for Floyd- always. 🤍🐾🪽
