The Issue

On April 30, 2026, Front Royal and Warren County, Virginia, received international attention during the historic visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla to our community as part of Virginia's 250th anniversary events.

Residents, visitors, businesses, and local organizations witnessed a level of excitement, tourism activity, and public engagement rarely seen in the community. Many residents believe this moment presents an opportunity to create a recurring annual event celebrating the unique heritage, history, tourism, and civic identity of Front Royal and Warren County.

Such an event could attract notable guests, educators, performers, historians, and public figures from across the United States and abroad. Building upon this momentum could help strengthen the region's visibility as a destination for heritage tourism, cultural programming, and regional events.

This petition asks the Front Royal Town Council and the Warren County Board of Supervisors to formally recognize the significance of the Royal Visit and begin discussions with local organizations, businesses, tourism partners, and residents about establishing an annual spring heritage-themed community event.

Petition Request

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the Front Royal Town Council and Warren County Board of Supervisors:

  1. Officially recognize the historic Royal Visit to Front Royal, Warren County, Virginia, on April 30, 2026.
  2. Explore establishing an annual community heritage event or festival connected to:
    1. Front Royal's history
    2. Warren County's history
    3. Shenandoah National Park
    4. Skyline Drive
    5. Shenandoah Valley heritage
    6. Virginia's colonial and early American history
    7. Tourism and economic development
    8. Cultural and educational programming
  3. Invite collaboration between:
    1. Local businesses
    2. Tourism organizations
    3. International heritage partners
    4. Historical societies
    5. Civic groups
    6. Arts organizations
    7. Schools
    8. Community volunteers
  4. Consider future event concepts such as:
    1. Historical reenactments
    2. British & Early American historical exhibits
    3. Heritage markets and festivals
    4. Themed food and cultural events
    5. Walking tours
    6. Cultural exchange programs
    7. Live performances
    8. Community celebrations highlighting Front Royal's role as a gateway to the Shenandoah Valley, Skyline Drive, and Shenandoah National Park

Why This Matters

Front Royal and Warren County possess a rich history that deserves continued recognition and celebration. The recent Royal Visit brought positive international attention to Front Royal and Warren County, demonstrating the region's ability to host meaningful, large-scale events and collaborative tourism opportunities.

While Front Royal and Warren County already host successful community traditions such as the Festival of Leaves, Family Fun Day, Wine & Craft Festival, Warren County Fair, Appaloosa Music Festival, the Homesteaders of America Conference, and the Christmas Parade, this concept offers an opportunity to connect destinations, organizations, businesses, and historical attractions throughout Front Royal and Warren County through a shared heritage and tourism initiative.

An annual heritage event could:

  • Encourage tourism
  • Support local businesses
  • Strengthen civic pride
  • Create educational opportunities
  • Preserve and share local history
  • Build long-term economic and cultural benefits for the community

Potential partnerships could also include regional, national, and international cultural organizations, as well as opportunities for collaboration with institutions such as the British Embassy in Washington, D.C., educational programs, and heritage-focused tourism initiatives.

This petition is not intended to create political division or unnecessary government spending. Instead, it encourages community discussion, collaboration, and partnership around a positive opportunity for Front Royal and Warren County.
