BREAKING NEWS!!!

We have a MAJOR update today on  our efforts to improve safety on Liberty Road.  First, I’d like to apologize for the long period of silence and lack of updates. MDOT required most of the summer to complete their traffic analysis, field study etc. Today I learned from the project lead person that they are going to move ahead with making improvements to the Intersection! After comparing accident data to other similar rural roads against 2 neighboring counties, it was determined that changes would be made. This is was based on data of accidents but also anecdotal accounts and concerns from residents and people like you who supported Friends Off Freter!  
Ok enough about that, let’s get to what changes we should expect and timelines…

So the project lead is committing to the following actions-

1) replacing the left turn road sign with a brand new version with the improved reflective surface to increase visibility.

2) the new sign will be moved 50 feet east along the road to increase the distance from the sign to the left turn on Freter. It should give increased visibility to westbound traffic coming over the gradual hill.

3) addition of reflectors along the center lane

4) possibly repainting the lines on the overtake on the right.

The estimated start time of the project is about 1 month for the new road sign and the other ehancements will be in the fall/winter. 

I think it’s a little to soon to declare victory on this campaign, as we would need to « see it before we believe it . »
