Reopen Cumwhinton Railway Station
The Issue
Cumwhinton Railway Station closed in 1956, since then the village has been cut off from the rest of Cumbria.
The railway station buildings and platforms survive as they're listed buildings. As the station is so complete only a small amount of restoration work and trains stopping is necessary for the railway station to reopen.
Many other railway stations on the Settle & Carlisle Railway have reopened and are now flourishing. Reopening Cumwhinton would allow the citizens of the village to commute of Carlisle and further afield. It would also encourage visitors to the village, reducing traffic on the local roads.
