Friends of Fritz Cove Petition 

Attention: Juneau Assembly & Planning Commission, Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, and DOWL. 

We, the undersigned, oppose a bridge across Fritz Cove between the end of Mendenhall Peninsula and the vicinity of the North Douglas boat launch ramp. 

● It would not reduce congestion during peak periods on the Douglas Island Bridge. 

● It would be the longest and most expensive (four times more according to estimates) second crossing alternative, requiring a very costly bridge across Fritz Cove and a new road down the Mendenhall Peninsula. 

● It would not reduce  travel time for medical and other first responders, and would create the longest route to the hospital if Douglas Island Bridge was closed. Douglas residents’ work and shopping travel times would be extraordinarily  long if Douglas Island Bridge were closed.

● It would have a significant negative impact on Fritz Cove whales, sea lions, and other marine life. 

● Hopes for the development of the west side of Douglas Island are doubtful because Juneau’s population isn’t increasing and many government offices are moving to the Anchorage area.
