Dear YIMBYnation, Friends of Responsible Growth, and Friends of Ascenté: WE DID IT! I wanted to let everyone know that all of our hard work paid off and because of your support, the Ascente’ project was approved by the Washoe Board of County Commissioners unanimously! YIMBYnation went up against difficult opposition that simply didn’t want ANYTHING in their backyard, but because of community members, business owners and pro-growth supporters getting active on social media, signing and commenting on the FRIENDS of ASCENTÉ petition, calling in and emailing our elected officials, personally attending the County Commission meeting last Tuesday, wearing our “YES! We Support Growth” stickers to visibly demonstrate our support, speaking in favor of the project when the Commissioners asked for public comment, and of course, having a well-designed project, having already earned County support and previous approval confirming that the developers met or exceeded the County’s Master Plan and development codes, the County Commission was able to unanimously approve Ascenté. We can all take credit for another smart and responsible-growth residential project that will now be able to contribute to the much needed and healthy growth of Northern Nevada. By our support of responsible smart-growth projects, we will help stabilize housing prices with increased supply, further freeing up inventory at all price ranges, supporting our thriving economic growth, and positively increasing housing tax revenues for improved services, infrastructure, and community programs.
