This morning I received the generic (probably cut and pasted) response from constituent services. See above screenshot.
While I empathize with the position those that work in constituent services are in, they are not entirely correct with the information they are sharing. Just one of the many patterns of how poorly this has been handled from the beginning. I question how "extensive" the FUSD investigation was.
1 - Facility issues have not been fully corrected. The scoreboard still does not function properly and still has holes where the warrior logo once was. This was supposed to be fixed in 2022.
2 - Coach Lopez cannot put her program at FHS while the current coaches are still there. This was attempted in October of 2021. The male coach created a "school sponsored" offseason program for FIVE boys. His program was so limited his own son went to McLane to participate with Echo Aquatics. By creating a school sponsored program, he was able to take priority over the inclusive Echo Aquatics. There is ZERO assurance this would not happen again. This is a costly issue for a club and has already cost Coach Lopez tens of thousands of dollars.
3 - If the issues had been corrected why hasn't there been a girls team in two years? A clear cut title ix issue. It is also notable that the girls coach did not play water polo and does not understand the game fully. Yet another way the girls suffer from what happened.
4 - If the issues had been corrected why are the current coaches still there? Remember the male coach harasses women and leaves kids in Santa Cruz. The female coach shouldn't have been hired in the first place and was deemed a discriminatory hire.
5 - Is the issues had been corrected why do the kids miss opportunities to fundraise, play in tournaments, and bond with their team mates.
This is far from over. This is just yet another FUSD tactic to slide this under the rug. Again demonstrating the poor leadership of the district and our elected board members. If they plan to continue their attempts to sweep this under the rug, they should get their facts checked.

It has only taken 3 weeks for a response and a generic one at that.
NO, the issues at FHS Aquatic Center have not been resolved yet. The scoreboard looks like CRAP and doesn't work half the time. It was supposed to be fixed in 2022. We attended several events this season and there have been issues every time with the timers...etc. Also, if things were fixed there would be more participation from students. What kid would want to participate when the school aquatics program and equipment is broken?!
As for Jennifer Lopez resigning this is true but only because of the toxic environment from the current coaching staff.
Even if Coach Lopez went to the District's Civic Center for permission to use the pool for her program she would be bumped. This happened to her 2 years ago from FHS, I am aware of this because both my son and I were participating in her program. It was a real disappointment that she couldn't continue using the FHS pool.
You can keep pushing these issues to the side but myself and everyone else advocating for something better will be a thorn in your side.There needs to be more effort from all!
