Thank You everyone for your continued support. We have submitted our petition to the Federal Board on Geographic Naming.
PLEASE REMEMBER ALL TRIBES INDIGENOUS TO THE VALLEY REMAIN NON-FEDERALLY ACKNOWLEDGED.
Many Non-Federally Acknowledged Tribes in the United States are organizations of tribal people that are historically, culturally, and/or genetically related to historic Native American Indian tribes but who are not officially recognized as Indigenous nations by the United States federal government.
In short, instead of acknowledging tribal groups that have maintained a continual tribal existence, the Federal Government has created a bureaucratic nightmare that has kept many tribes waiting for acknowledgement for nearly 50 years, half a century.
Lack of Federal Acknowledgement allows Fresno County Board of Supervisor Nathan Magsig to truthfully state that he has spoken with all the Federally Recognized Tribes in the area and none have expressed a desire to change the name. This would be true as all the tribes indigenous to the area remain Non-Federally Acknowledged. The Federal process for reviewing proposed petitions, like ours, for geographic naming only lawfully require the review board to reach out and seek input from Federally Recognized Tribes.
