
In his last update, Supervisor Magsig said he was open to a name change, so long as we speak with residents of S-Word Valley and get their buy-in. The truth is that we have residents of the community within our organizing group, we’ve hosted conversations with residents and are eager to have more – but the supervisor has all but obstructed our attempts to do so.
Take 5 minutes to call Supervisor Magsig (instructions below) and tell him you want the valley renamed.
The s-word is now federally recognized as deeply offensive and harmful. Thanks to Secretary Haaland’s recent announcement, Supervisor Magsis is now legally required to change the names of several locations within his jurisdiction. The fact that S-Word Valley is not one of them, and some of its residents have fond associations with the name doesn’t change the harm it causes.
Supervisor Magsig is actively standing in the way of progress. We need to increase pressure on him so that he can no longer afford to ignore us.

I am calling to tell Supervisor Magsig that it’s time to rename Squaw Valley. We’ve known that this word is harmful and offensive for a long time, but now even Secretary Haaland recognizes it as such. Fresno County is behind the times – let’s pick a new name.
