The Fresno Board of Supervisors are the people who can enact the change we are asking for. If we want to win this campaign, we need to increase peaceful pressure on them to consider the harm the s-word causes to indigenous people.

As a resident, I support the local Native Americans and the Rename Squaw Valley coalition who are requesting changing the valley’s name. This slur has been banned nationally from use in communities, public landmark names, and now it is to be immediately removed from federal lands. Additionally, the United States Secretary of Interior has declared the word unfit for geographic naming.

I ask that you will please consider adding an agenda item for community meetings calling for a change of the name Squaw Valley in Fresno County.
