UPDATE: The California Advisory committee on geographic names (CACGN) acknowledged our suggested updated name of "Yokuts Valley" moving forward, but tabled any further discussion of our petition until the Federal task force completes its order. Public comment ends 04/24 @ 11:59PM (EST). Next CACGN meeting is July 22nd, 2022 @ 9:30 A.M. – 3:00 P.M. (PST). (https://cacgn.ca.gov/
WHAT YOU CAN DO: If you have not done so, if you have time, please email the Federal Task Force imploring them to include "populated places" in the list of geographic sites that they will change. I have included at the bottom a script that you can use. Feel free to alter the script to convey your sentiments. Please repost and share the information. Encourage others to email expressing that the S-word should be removed from all American geographic locations. Not just Federal lands, but all public lands as well. SAMPLE TEXT: Dear Task Force, I ask you to include ALL American public lands identified with the s-word, like that of S-Valley, Fresno County, a Populated Place - ID# 1659853, to be removed from America's landscape. I wholeheartedly support Sec. Haaland's Order 3404 to remove ALL use of the s-word from ALL federal lands. Please include "populated place" among the list of geographic names to be renamed, as they are also presently identified with the pejorative that is the S-word. Your full consideration is very much appreciated. Thanks and thank you Sec. Haaland.
