Stop CEMEX from blast mining San Joaquin River

Stop CEMEX from blast mining San Joaquin River
The Issue
The global billion dollar company CEMEX has applied for permits allowing them to mine the San Joaquin River for the next 100 years. The project would entail blast mining and drilling a 600 ft. pit into hard rock near the river. CEMEX claims to be mining for concrete and asphalt to fulfill their "high demand" for construction supplies. And although sand and gravel mining have been occuring in this area North of Fresno since the Gold Rush, explosives have never been used.
Seeing as to how we are still experiencing the negative impacts of that era with lead/mercury poisoning via water pollution, and consequently, the endangerment of local fish and wildlife; it seems only right to stop this massive project.
To allow CEMEX to proceed would put us at risk of many dangers. This project could obstruct the water cycle by crippling the riparian forest along the river that helps bring rain. It could also result in air/water pollution, habitat loss for wildlife, contamination of traditional plants and foodstuffs for our local Indigenous relatives, and less water overall. Considering it takes water to mine, CEMEX plans to use 240 acre feet of groundwater and 102 acre feet of river water.
Don't continue to allow wealthy companies like CEMEX to pollute our environment for profit; it's suffered enough. Please contact your local Board of Supervisors in Fresno,CA to stop this project. Thank you.
