Terminate Infinite Campus Contract !

Terminate Infinite Campus Contract !
The Issue
We are petitioning Fremont Unified School District to terminate its contract with Infinite Campus and move to Aeries (we understand that a return to Schoolloop is not a viable option at this time). There was no teacher input on this decision which has impacted them tremendously. The following rationale is given in support of the termination:
- Despite being promised last year, no training was provided - none. Having a site “expert” is not a substitute for in person training. Now we are expected to take personal or prep time to watch videos on how to use it. This program has a steep learning curve especially when there was no training for staff, parents or students on how to use it.
- Parent portal is not user friendly.
- Students cannot see all the information they need to see.
Gradebook Issues
- Time intensive and laborious (for secondary takes 90 minutes plus to get everything setup).
- Not intuitive or user friendly in any way
- Very hard to find data/information because of the drop downs and multiple screens you have to go through to get to what you need
With Google Classroom SIS export, the teacher still has to go into gradebook and click a button to categorize assignment before it populates in the gradebook. - Takes too much time and too many clicks to enter assignments and grades.
- Takes a number of clicks to make an add assignment for multiple sections.
- Inefficient
- Changing an assignment must be done in each section - not just in one place that transfers to all sections.
- Changes made in Google Classroom are not automatically reflected in IC - we have to manually sync every time we have an assignment.
Messenger Issues
- can only be used to email your current students not past or future students or the entire student body. Impacts groups on campus, yearbook, newspaper, or teachers who need to email all IHS students.
- Messenger does not allow us to email the education team (student's teachers and parents) in one email to discuss concerns about students with all parties involved. In order to do this, we have to look up the students schedule (which does not show teacher names, only room numbers), and then look up the parent email and type it all into Gmail.
- Weighed down with many steps and hoops and is not user friendly. Overall, it takes too many steps to send messages (several screens) and it is limited in who you can send it to.
- When parents get a message it says it is from FUSD, not the teacher.
- Teacher does not get Gmail notification that they have messages in IC or the messages do not arrive at all. Many parents are just using Gmail out of frustration with IC Messenger.
- Takes too much time and too many clicks to send messages.
Parents want to be informed and this is not a consistent or efficient way to do so. - Very inefficient and purposeless.
General Issues
- Teachers cannot see student progress or status in other classes. This makes is difficult to track trends or issue with students and isolate is it a pervasive problem with all classes or just our class. Huge challenge for getting kids referred to SST and COST. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM, especially coming off the pandemic when kids may have more social/emotional needs. Many teachers used this nearly every day in Schoolloop.
- Looking up a student’s schedule to email their learning team takes several screens and you have to find a day on the calendar they have all classes - in some cases only 1 day a week.
- Visually, unappealing and looks like a DOS based application from the 1980’s. Very dated, unwieldy and cumbersome. Teachers DO care how it looks as well as how it works. Additionally, much of the screen is taken up by IC screen real estate making it hard to view anything especially the gradebook.
- Everything that used to take 1 or 2 steps now takes 5-6 taking valuable time we do not have, especially this year.
- Nine times out of 10, when we ask if IC can do something the answer is no.
- The developer of this platform does not seem to have any experience as a classroom teacher.
- There have been hundreds of work orders in the first three weeks of school the majority of which have not been addressed or resolved. (I understand the tech department is doing all they can but there should not be this many work orders especially if the system is intended to be a significant improvement on the previous one.
Additionally, we request the tech department be able to hire additional staff to provide robust support for the plethora of applications employed by staff and students. The current staff is wonderful, they are just understaffed at this time.
