On 10 November 2025, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier, appealed to the Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to pardon Boualem Sansal, an initiative which is strongly supported by the “Leipzig Initiative for the Release of Boualem Sansal”.
