UPDATE #34: "Elephants do not belong in captivity; especially in conditions that only increase their aggressive tendencies, including extremely small enclosures, the use of negative reinforcement training techniques via bullhooks, and the lack of appropriate mental, physical, and social opportunities. Even Shankar in the Delhi zoo has displayed aggressive behaviour leading to his separation from the other Asian elephants in the zoo. The viewing footpath near his enclosure has also been closed to keep visitors safe.
