Lauren Sanchez started this petition to Freedom Township Trustees

This petition is to support Duke’s K9 Dash N’ Splash presence in Freedom Township, Ohio.

Duke’s K9 Dash N’ Splash has come under fire from two trustees on the Freedom Township board. Prior to closing on the property, the owner of Duke’s repeatedly tried getting a straight answer from the board on whether or not they can build their business, to no avail. After getting the runaround, the business hired an attorney who informed them they would not have to go through permitting since Duke’s qualifies for a agricultural exception for animal husbandary.
Since December 2020 one of the opposing board members pushed back against fellow trustees, the Portage County Prosecutor, and zoning inspectors, stating that the owner does not have the proper permit to continue conducting business.
After the facility was built, they received a zoning violation advisory and a visit from the Portage County Health Department. The visit was following a claim from a neighbor who complained to one of the opposing trustees that they did not have a proper septic system to accommodate campers during events on their property.
The owner of Duke’s decided to attend one of the board meetings to address these issues. In defense of the business, nearly 50 community members and dog trainers also gathered at the meeting. They addressed the actions of the opposing trustee, stating abuse of power and overstepping boundaries within his role on the board. Then, they addressed how Duke’s uplifts the community and brings new business to the area. The owner then explained that in addition to weekly regulars, national and monthly competitions has brought people from all over the country, effectively putting Freedom Township on the map.

One of the opposing trustees stated that the board will need to meet with legal experts to address the matter.
