The Issue
Apparently, Mayor Robertson believes his religious views give him the right to disallow our very 1st Amendment Right to Freedom Of Worship. He has chosen to willfully ban the opening of a Pagan Temple in the city of Beebe, AK because the temple would not only be Pagan, but because Mr. Dahl's "God is not his God" (as stated by his local alderman, which is also reflected by the Mayor's actions and statements), he is even being denied representation. What's more, a city official who is willfully denying the right of a citizen based on religious bias is openly using zoning laws in order to deter, bully and harass a citizen the right of Freedom Of Worship. It is wrong and it is offensive.
What's more, when originally approached by Mr. Dahl about opening a church in the building in his backyard, the Mayor had no issue. The Mayor, who owns a furniture store, even sold the Dahl family 3 couches for their new home and establishment. Upon finding that it was to be a Pagan Temple, and not a Christian Church, he refused to provide the necessary permit papers and has openly stated that Mr. Dahl's application would not be permitted, with or without the submission of the appropriate paperwork/permits and has fallen back on zoning laws that do not seem to encompass other home business in Mr. Dahl's area.
This is a fine example of the corruption of power, as he is openly neglecting our rights of Citizens, as laid out in our very Constitution and the Amendments of it. As long as Mr. Dahl provides the required information and permit, pays the necessary fees, and meets the critera of Church Status, he should be allowed to open his Temple. Whether it is a Pagan Temple or not should not matter. The Mayor should not get the choice to supercede the Constitution set in place specifically to protect all to worship as they wish. In demanding he rescind his original statement, and cease any further attempts to halt the opening of a Temple/Church based on the religion of it's parishioners, I am hopeful this petition will open his blind eyes to the offensive violation of rights he has set forth. If he persists, I would recommend this be taken directly to the Supreme Court for further action and to set the standard for any and all other public officals who believe they have the right to over rule the very laws this great country was founded upon.
Please sign, share and spread the word. Today it is in support of Paganism, but should this Mayor get his way, tomorrow it could be a Temple of Judiasm, a Christian Church, a Buddhist Temple. It could be your religion being denied, or the religion of some one you love. This sets the bar for all religions to be judged and for it's practioners to be denied their very right to worship in a manner that is fit for them.
