Ability to visit family in EU for EU citizens without special permission
The Issue
Due the recent UK government legislation, which is promoted due to the pandemic to protect all residents who live permanently in United Kingdom, many European Union citizens and all other UK residents have not been able to see their families and loved ones. It’s not been possible for a very long time to visit families or travel freely to EU (other foreign) home countries from United Kingdom because returning would mean the quarantine and paying for expensive tests as a condition of the international travel.
There are many EU citizens and their family members (regardless of nationality) permanently settled in the UK who do not travel to EU and other countries for leisure purposes.
UK government should consider different approach in regards to EU citizens and all UK residents as well as their family members who may need to travel to their countries.Connecting with loved ones is not same as holiday abroad and should be classified as an exemption.
Freedom of movement as one of the principles of European Union and agreement reached between European Union and United Kingdom before January 2021.
United Kingdom should allow citizens of EU, their family members and UK residents to be able to travel abroad (in EU/EEA and other countries) without fear of not being able to return in United Kingdom because of the frequent rule changes, whilst travelling in the line with the current pandemic guidelines.
Please consider this as a genuine reason for review as it may help many people who are unable to see their family members for very long time.
I would like to visit my mother who lives in Germany and I am Croatian (EU) national while my sister is UK resident settled in the United Kingdom.
I have not been able to see my close family for very long time which is very sad.
