Freedom For LWOP Youth Offender
Why this petition matters
Ricky Padilla was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole at the age of 19, for first degree murder. There was no concrete evidence that he was in fact the killer. His case was transferred to Long Beach court house where he was "railroaded" and inadequately represented by his public defender. He was told by his public defender "You will not win, but you have a good chance at appeal" and was told also that this was his last case and he was going into retirement. Ricky was very young, he did not know his rights or the law, his lawyer did not defend him, he put nothing into question and brought no supporting arguments to court. He let Ricky get sentenced. Since he has been incarcerated, Ricky has grown immensely and now has the tools and will power to push for his story to be heard. We are asking for the public and the District Attorney of Los Angeles to hear his case and correct mistakes made by the justice system that has cost him his life. It has been 12 years, a writ of habeas corpus is being prepared on his behalf. It is considered an untimely filing, but everyone heals and grows at different paces. Rickys time was not put to waste, he was preparing himself for the road to freedom.
If we can get the Habeas Corpus Read and considered by the District Attorney, he WILL come home.
If the District attorney overlooks his case because too much time has passed, then his options are diminished to settling for Lesser time through other appeals, which is till 100+ years.
He was wrongfully accused of murder, the system drowned him in coached testimonies and bias jurors. Please sign this petition to help make noise for the District Attorney to consider his Writ of Habeas Corpus.
