Freedom for Galila Khamis

The Issue

Activist Galila Khamis, 45, was arrested by Sudan's National Security on . Her seven children, ages 12-18, do not know her whereabouts. Galila is is a Nuba women's and community development dvocate. Hundreds of thousands of the Nuba have been forced out of their homes and into neighboring countries or into cities in the North since June 2011; following a contested elections in the region of South Kordofan. The area has witnessed bombardment, killings of civilians, and lack of access to food and other basic needs. The majority of international humanitarian agencies have virtually no access to the area.
We call upon the Sudanese government to immediately release Galila Khamis and other women detainees in Sudan.
