We call upon the Indian government and the Indian judiciary to end the politically motivated and unfair trial of Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik. 
 
Yasin Malik, the prominent liberation leader in Jammu Kashmir, is being tried on politically motivated charges and a decision was taken on 19 May 2022. He has not been given a chance of fair trial and has been given a life imprisonment sentence.  He has repeatedly protested that the proceedings against him are unfair and highly partial, where he has not been allowed to present his case or make his arguments - hence denying him his fundamental human right to defend himself. 

Without being presented a valid reason, he has been denied physical appearance in the court throughout the trial, and he has been unable to hear majority of the arguments made by prosecuting team over the video link.  Consequently, he has not been able to respond effectively to the allegations against him. 
 
The trial against him has all the hallmarks of the politically motivated trial at the behest of India's Modi regime, and many fear that irrespective of the trial proceedings, the court will simply deliver the verdict decided by the regime in New Delhi rather than by the court itself. 
 
We call upon the concerned International Human Rights Organizations to uphold justice and maintain the integrity and fairness that is expected of a judicial institution and ensure the provision of Yasin Malik's fundamental human right of access to justice.
We call upon the Indian government to stop its interventions and highly unfair influence on the trial proceedings and the pending decision.
