No matter your age, irrespective of race, no matter where you may fall on the spectrum of sexuality, Justice is an omnipresent concept. We all understand and viscerally feel when something is not right. We all understand and have felt the painful sting of mistreatment. On many occasions I have written posted and hopefully you have read about systems that are built upon foundations of mistreatment and (in)justice. Many of us are aware of systems that capitalize on, benefit from and exacerbate inequities. Without doubt there are practices, policies and laws that enable and even facilitate systems of oppression to flourish, sometimes in the name of justice. The number one such system from my perspective is the system of mass incarceration. We must combat the Tierney of mass incarceration with the liberation of Justice. The United States, leading the entire world in systematic incarceration does not meet the standard of Justice. Inequitable funding of public schools is NOT JUSTICE. Aggressive police tactics in black and brown communities is NOT JUSTICE. Justice is equity, Justice is equal opportunity, Justice is the dismantling of the constructs of race, gender, sexuality and all oppressive systems that limit the capabilities of others. Justice is the deconstruction of all systems that divide, that oppress that castigate, that are inhumane. Justice is love, hope, empathy and unity. Justice is a transition from these systems that dominate this nation into something more, something unified, something just...Systems that are just are transparent and restorative, systems that are just are NOT color blind they are color conscious. Systems that are just provide equal pay for equal work and they do not legislate whom you can or cannot love. Just systems have ALL OF US deeply embedded within the foundation of its existence. ALL OF US black, white, old young, the entire spectrum of sexuality. A just system would speak truth about who we ALL ARE about the potential of our capabilities and the complexities of our challenges. A system based on just principles would see beauty in both race and gender. It would see the contributions of All our ancestors. It would see us in word and in deed, as one Nation under God indivisible with liberty and Justice for ALL. When I think about the future of this Nation and the future, we will leave behind I am concerned. I am concerned because there is so much work to do to get us where we need to be. But I am also hopeful because of the people that make up our families, that make up our communities, that make up organizations. People that are dedicated to bringing about the Nation that we know is possible, the Country that we proclaim to be. I am confident because I am a part of that work, I am a recipient of the love, I am a part of the movement that will lead to systemic positive change in this Nation. No matter your age, irrespective of race, no matter where you fall on the spectrum of sexuality, Justice is not a privilege or Pipedream, today we proclaim, today we demand that Justice is Desideratum!
