Tule Elk in the Tomales Point Tule Elk Reserve inside Point Reyes National Seashore have won their freedom!

They will no longer be trapped behind the 8ft high woven wire fence and prevented from roaming naturally in our one and only West Coast National Seashore. A large portion of this fence was removed by the National Park Service (NPS) in December 2024, and while the rest was prevented from being removed by a temporary lawsuit, that is now null and void because the NPS has also come to a revised decision regarding the future of ranching in the Seashore and how it manages, among other things, it's wildlife like our precious Tule Elk.

A lot has happened recently and you can learn more about this latest news on our website here: www.missionrewild.org/news

Also, you can watch a video clip of the first magnificent Tule Elk walking out of the reserve lands, where the 8ft high fence was removed, and experiencing freedom for the first time since elk were put behind the fence in 1978! Please watch here:

After years and years of a lot of hard work, a lot of ups and downs, we are incredibly grateful for this victory for our native wildlife and our beautiful public land. This is a big victory and we cannot thank everyone enough for helping support this petition and support our efforts to see our Seashore held to a higher standard. Tule Elk are free!

Please connect with us on social media or find ways to follow along as we continue to serve our natural world, our spectacular wildlife, and rewild our interconnected Earth.
