The Municipal Gardens of Nicosia have a beautiful collection of peacocks inside the park, tucked inside a large metal sphere that works as a cage, where visitors can observe them from outside. Any visitor to the gardens has seen this enormous and exaggerated metal structure that is not only unfair, since we are talking about birds in need of movement, but absolutely unnecessary and a maintenance expense that makes no sense.
It has been shown that peacocks are not aggressive animals and in multiple parks around the world they live free within the enclosure along with ducks, swans and pigeons. We can name some of these parks in other countries where peacocks roam free, without the need for confinement:
Holland Park, in London, UK.
Jardin d'Acclimatataion, in Paris, France.
Jardins do Palacio de Cristal, in Porto, Portugal.
Giardino dell'isola Bella, on Isole Borromeo, Italy.
Vojanovy Sady, in Prague, Czech Republic.
Zámocký Park, in Pezinok, Slovakia.
Australis Paradise, in Carilo, Argentina.
Conservation Park, in Medellin, Colombia.
Beacon Hill Park, in Vancouver, Canada.
Crandon Park, in Florida, or Mayfield Park, in Texas, United States.
And even several parks in Spain, such as El Retiro, in Madrid, El Alcázar, in Sevilla or El Campo Grande, in Valladolid.

There is no need to keep them locked up in a cage, as they are sedentary animals that stay where their family and food are.

Through this collection of signatures we want to write an official formal petition, supported by the NGO YEU Cyprus and linked to the official ESC project of the European Union 'Green-it Up!' to the municipality of Nicosia to give freedom to these peacocks and allow them to roam free in the municipal gardens of Nicosia.

Οι Δημοτικοί Κήποι Λευκωσίας έχουν μια όμορφη συλλογή από παγώνια μέσα στο πάρκο, κρυμμένα μέσα σε μια μεγάλη μεταλλική σφαίρα που λειτουργεί ως κλουβί, όπου οι επισκέπτες μπορούν να τα παρατηρήσουν από έξω. Οι επισκέπτες βλέπουν αυτή την τεράστια και υπερβολική μεταλλική κατασκευή που είναι άδικη και καταπιεστική για μεγάλα πουλιά που χρειάζοντε περισσότερο χώρο μετακίνησης. Επιπλέον το κλουβί προσθέτει στα περιττά εξοδα συντήρησης των δαπανών του Δήμου.

Έχει αποδειχθεί ότι τα παγώνια δεν είναι επιθετικά ζώα και σε πολλά πάρκα σε όλο τον κόσμο ζουν ελεύθερα μέσα στο περίβλημα των κήπων μαζί με πάπιες, κύκνους, περιστέρια και άλλα πουλιά.
