Sheba has been transferred to Best Friends animal rescue in Kanab Utah. It's 700 plus miles from San Bernardino and it's a 2000 mile round trip for me to take him up there. We only get to visit her one and a half hours twice a day. The rental car costs around $500 and gas in Calif. is $5 plus per gal. We paid $5.79 in Las Vegas once on the way back. Pepe's sponsor pays for the motel and meals. The motel cost over $500 for 2 for 2 nights and 3 days. His sponsor has also started a fundraiser on Facebook but the Free Sheba Now group has been dissolved as far as I know. Pepe is on a fixed income and he has health issues. He's 82 years old. Who doesn't have issues at that age. I'm really happy that San Bernardino Council spared Sheba but now Pepe only gets to visit her a few times a year. It's real heart breaking when we have to leave Utah and come home. She knows that he is leaving and she is confussed as to why he's leaving. They both cry and honestly I get a little choked up myself. I couldn't imagine that happening to my dog. The group that you guys can see updates of Sheba and Pepe together is called "Sheba and Pepe their true story continues". It's on Facebook. There is also a fundraiser for donations. Barbara(his sponsor) is his guardian angel. She looks after him and protects him. She does everything from helping him pay his bills to Dr. appts. to scheduling vet appts. for his other dog Osa. A beautiful special needs German Shepard female pup who is full of personality. She travels with us on these trips and is very interested at first. Then she sleeps most of the way. I made the mistake of scheduling this last trip on July 4th. From Las Vegas to San Bernardino took 9 hours! Traffic was ridiculous. But we made it. Once Pepe was home again, it's back to Tucson for me. I was honored when she asked me if I could chaperone him. I take more pride in doing this than I did graduating college. Thank God I'm self-employed. Only 2 years to retirement.
THANK you All so much for your support. I know this petition changed the outcome of this tragic story. The life of a beautiful dog was spared because of you guys. And I'm very proud to have been a part of it.
