Today the Free Saibaba Coalition-US hosted a joint protest and vigil with the Alliance for a Secular and Democratic South Asia, Coalition for a Democratic India (CDI), and the South Asia Center. The event was primarily focused on the recent murder of Gauri Lankesh but also was in opposition to the suppression of dissent in India more broadly. Progressive forces in the greater Boston area came together to stand with the people’s struggles in India in opposition to ongoing attacks by the ruling class and the various Hindu fascist forces they arm and sponsor. Those in attendance also spoke about the jailing of Professor Saibaba under the UAPA, the struggles of the dalits and adivasis, and condemned the attacks against the Rohingya people in Myanmar and Modi’s support of these attacks. Others spoke out against growing ties between Indian expansionism and US Imperialism, and the important role that we in the US can play in supporting the people’s struggles in India.
