9th July 2015 - The Committee to Protect Journalists has today announced the release of award-winning Ethiopian journalist Reeyot Alemu! 'Reeyot told CPJ today that she was happy to be free and that her health was "okay," but that she was still taking painkillers...' Reeyot Alemu was suffering from a breast tumour while in prison. Safe World for Women collaborated in a campaign to free Reeyot, led by the International Women's Media Foundation and the Media Legal Defence Initiative, together with the Committee to Protect Journalists, Freedom Now, Kality Foundation and PEN International.. With over 4,000 supporters of this petition, set up by Safe World for Women, it is likely that it had some impact. So immense gratitude to everyone who signed!
