Free Psychological Support After Abortion. Greece, No Woman Should Face Trauma Alone.
The Issue
We call on the Greek Government to provide free, confidential psychological support for women and girls who need it following an abortion, especially survivors of sexual violence, coercion, or abuse.
Some women have faced an abortion under overwhelming pressure. Others experienced pregnancy following sexual violence. And some were still children when they endured experiences no child should ever have to face. For those struggling emotionally afterward, professional support can make a meaningful difference. Yet therapy costs, limited access to specialists, and fear of judgment can stand in the way. How can we expect someone to heal when the help they need is beyond their reach? Not every abortion is traumatic, and every woman's experience is different. But everyone who needs psychological care deserves access to it.
We are calling on the Greek Government, the Ministry of Health, healthcare providers, and NGOs to work together on four essential actions:
❤️ MAKE PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT FREE.
Provide confidential counselling, online therapy, and ongoing psychological care when needed, regardless of income or location.
🧸 PROTECT YOUNG SURVIVORS.
Ensure girls affected by sexual abuse, exploitation, or traumatic pregnancy experiences have access to specialized adolescent psychologists, alongside appropriate child-protection services.
🕊️ PROVIDE TRAUMA-SPECIALIZED CARE.
Connect survivors of sexual violence and coercion with qualified psychologists who offer compassionate, confidential support without blame or judgment.
🏥 MAKE EMOTIONAL CARE PART OF HEALTHCARE.
Connect hospitals, clinics, mental health professionals, and NGOs so women can easily access psychological support during or after medical care, whenever they need it.
We are not asking for the impossible. We are asking for compassion, cooperation, and a practical plan.
Imagine a young survivor finding a psychologist who helps her feel safe again. Imagine a woman who has carried painful memories for years finally receiving support. Imagine a Greece where no one must choose between paying for therapy and meeting their basic needs.
We cannot change what someone has experienced. But we can change the support available afterward.
Our goal is 10,000 signatures to call for a nationwide, publicly funded initiative offering free psychological counselling, specialized trauma care, and dedicated child and adolescent mental health services for women and girls who need them.
✍️ Sign. Share. Help make sure no woman is left without support.
Some experiences cannot be undone. But no one should have to face their aftermath alone.
🇬🇷 Καμία γυναίκα μόνη. Καμία έφηβη αβοήθητη. Καμία ψυχή χωρίς στήριξη.
