We have sadly just passed the five month mark of Peter’s unjust incarceration in Afghanistan, and his friends and family are increasingly frustrated by the complacency of the Foreign Office in getting him home. We understand that it is known what the Afghan government want in order to free him, and other Britons being held, but every indication we see is that there is little momentum in the negotiations, compared to how the US government approached achieving the freedom for their citizen, Safi Rauf, released over a month ago.
It is imperative that the Foreign Office takes Peter’s case seriously and shows that it wants to get him out. We request attention from the highest level of the UK government to show it is committed to getting Peter home to his family. There is a political solution to this, and the Foreign Office needs to give real pace to the negotiations, to show it realises that every day he remains in jail, his life is in danger. Peter is 61, has high blood pressure, and needs access to basic healthcare. We are very concerned for his wellbeing, and others being held.
We thank all of you who have supported us, and with humility, again request you to please help us spread the word, and get more of your friends and connections to sign this petition to get us to the goal of 100,000 signatories. At that threshold, the government is obliged to respond to Peter's case, and give him the attention he urgently deserves. The photo shows Peter when he was last at home, and reminds us that this is where this good man needs to be: reunited with his family.
