My sister frequently visits the Mauna Kea Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii and she shared with me a heartbreaking story about Mango, a beautiful 40-year-old macaw parrot. This intelligent bird is being used merely for aesthetic value and is left alone all day, every day. What's worse is that he recently lost his lifetime mate and only companion. 

I had to verify his condition and I’m in total agreement with my sister. 

I also spoke with my Veterinarian who has direct knowledge of Mango and his situation. She said she visited the resort when Mango’s mate was still alive and noticed she needed medical attention. My veterinarian approached management but they refused to do anything. Mango’s mate passed away some time after her observation.

Mango's confinement does not just limit his physical freedom but also affects his mental health significantly. Parrots are social creatures who thrive on interaction; isolation can lead to depression and self-destructive behavior in them (source: American Veterinary Medical Association). The management and hotel owner seem to be indifferent towards Mango's wellbeing despite the fact that macaws can live up to 80 years old (source: World Parrot Trust).

This petition calls for immediate action to free Mango from this cruel condition and relocate him to a sanctuary where he will receive proper care, companionship, and peace he deserves. We cannot stand by while such an intelligent creature suffers due to human negligence.
