The Issue

Mario Guevara is a Spanish-language journalist, a father, and a respected voice for immigrant communities. Now he’s sitting in ICE custody, simply for doing his job.

Mario was covering a protest in Atlanta when he was arrested while filming. He was wearing his PRESS vest and clearly identified himself as a journalist.

His crime? Standing on a sidewalk and reporting the truth. After he was granted bond, ICE placed a hold on him — a move that could lead to deportation.

Mario fled violence in El Salvador 20 years ago. He’s lived and worked in Georgia ever since, covering immigration raids and giving voice to people who are often silenced. He has a work permit, a U.S. citizen son, and a pending green card application. He should not be in a jail cell.

This is a terrifying attack on press freedom and free speech. When journalists are arrested for telling the truth — especially those covering vulnerable communities — we all lose.

We demand that ICE immediately release Mario Guevara and drop all deportation proceedings. Journalism is not a crime.

Sign now to stand with Mario and protect our fundamental rights.
