Advocacy Statement – Byron’s Reflection
“My son Byron recently said something that captures the heart of why A Mother’s Cry continues to fight. He told me:
‘This entire back and forth with my case, and so many others, is really about unaddressed prosecutorial misconduct—from investigations to incarcerations. The light is always shone on the so-called “criminals” and their “crimes,” but rarely on the police, judges, legislators, and prosecutors who misuse their power. We are beyond playing checkers; we are playing chess. Too many years of my life—and my mother’s—have been wasted. We must no longer focus on being pawns. We must focus on the Queen and King, and make our next moves accordingly.’
His words are not only about his case—they speak to a truth across this nation. Our justice system cannot continue to ignore misconduct at its core. If we truly want transformation, we must shift the spotlight from individuals who are incarcerated to the systems and officials who create, enable, and uphold injustice.
This is not a game of chance—it is a matter of strategy, courage, and accountability. Byron’s voice reminds us that the next moves must not be about survival alone, but about structural change.”
🗣️ Byron said it best:
“This isn’t about my case alone—it’s about unchecked prosecutorial misconduct. The system shines a light on the accused but never on police, judges, or prosecutors. We’re not pawns in checkers anymore. We’re playing chess—and it’s time to focus on the real power.”
