Antonio Rodiles has been arbitrarily detained for the past two weeks and is suffering from bruises to his face caused by a beating he received when arrested by plain-clothed security forces. He as been charged with "resisting arrest" and his case number is 62886.
Antonio helped launch a petition demanding that the Cuban government ratify and put into practice the International Accords it signed in 2008 at the UN for the well being and prosperity of all Cubans and the respect for their human rights.
This petition is available in English at: http://foranothercuba.wordpress.com/text-of-the-demand/

After earning a Ph.D. in Mexico and working in the U.S. as a University physics professor, Antonio returned to Cuba in 2010 and launched the project State of SATS: http://www.estadodesats.com/en/.
This project is an independent channel of digital television (similar to the world-famous Ted Talks), available on-line outside of Cuba and shared hand-to-hand within the island using flash-drives. This project is one of the only public spaces in Cuba where critical, social and political debate can take place in an open, free, and respectful manner, without discrimination or fear.
The Cuban authorities refuse to recognize that there is no law against the free exercise of one's civil rights. Because of this, the police routinely invent arbitrary charges and treat acts of civil dissent and resistance as common crimes.
We call on all people of conscience to put pressure on the Cuban Government and on it´s diplomatic missions around the world, demanding that they free Antonio and comply with the international agreements they have signed.
This is our declaration in video form: http://orlandoluispardolazo.blogspot.com/2012/11/declaracion-favor-de-rodiles.html
