Some wonderful news. Poetry Northwest has published Amanda's translation of a poem by Kerima Lorena Tariman, titled "There is a Ghost in Makiling." Poetry Northwest is currently based in Oregon, and has been running since 1959.
This translation is part of Amanda Echanis's larger project to translate Kerima Lorena Tariman's poetry and publish it in English. An independent publisher in the UK has already expressed interest.
This poetry translation project, in turn, is part of Amanda's ongoing participation in the greater battle for social justice in the Philippines. The late Kerima Lorena Tariman was herself involved in understanding and supporting the peasant struggle before she died at the hands of the Philippine military in her early forties in 2021.
From jail, Amanda continues to stand alongside farmers and peasant women in advocating for genuine land reform.
