Fred's Law to prevent further deaths in custody due to mental illness and medical problems
Why this petition matters

My brother Fredrick Row Row a proud Darumbal and kullilli man died in custody in 2016 at Capricornia correctional centre outside of Rockhampton QLD a day after his birthday on the 24th of August due to the lack of mental health support he received, he mentioned he had suicidal ideations early that morning but was ignored, he was taken from high risk of suicide to low risk in just 48 hours, his cries to get taken to the medical unit at the jail were denied and was labelled as "looking for attention" a short time later my brother hung himself by a door leading to the exercise yard at the detention unit at the prison, this door being open was the only thing that was changed after my brother's inquest even though recommendations were put forward to the state coroner by family to help prevent further deaths and now another death has happened at the same jail to similar circumstances in the last few days.
Deaths in custody are happening too often with well over 500 deaths in custody and a large number of those deaths are from the lack of mental health issues and medical issues that were ignored while in police custody that I believe is not supported enough. So many cries from family and nothing is changing in prisons.
This petition is to introduce a new law called Fred's Law where I will be introducing a new bill to parliament which gives inmates and their families power for the prison officers and psychologists to address the prisoner immediately and not ignore what's happening with suicidal inmates and/or their mental health state or medical issues that one is suffering, allows the prisoner or people held in the watch house to be able to call family or friends for support on the outside immediately, a ambulance to be called immediately when a prisoner or family member activates "Fred's Law" something that was denied to my brother a number of times when he wanted to speak to family, if he was given those calls or an immediate visitor it may have saved his life.
Losing a family member in jail and the feeling he couldn't speak to family for support is heartbreaking, knowing he left this world alone maybe thinking no-one cared about him, this is why I am attempting to try prevent further deaths in custody by introducing "Fred's Law"
Please sign my petition, myself and a lot of grieving families around Australia would appreciate it, if we can try to prevent further deaths and save future families from the pain I still suffer after 6 years.
Please help me make a change.
